Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Screentype collects, how we use it, and the two commitments that matter most for writers: ownership of your work, and consent before any AI use of your data. Service rules are in the Terms of Service.
Last updated September 7, 2026
You own your screenplay
Screentype does not claim ownership of the scripts, screenplays, notes, titles, or other creative content you create or upload. That work remains yours. By using the service you grant us only the limited license needed to store, display, sync, export, and otherwise operate the product for you — nothing more. We do not sell your writing, license it to others, or treat it as ours.
No AI use without prior consent
We do not send your screenplays, account data, or other personal content to third-party artificial intelligence or machine-learning services, and we do not use that content to train AI models, without your prior consent. If we ever offer an optional AI feature that needs your writing or account data, we will ask first and only proceed if you agree.
Features that run on your document inside Screentype — such as format suggestions, ghost completions from your own script, and structural or dialogue analysis computed locally from what you typed — are not third-party AI training or model calls. Those stay within the product so the editor can work.
Who we are
Screentype is the screenplay writing service at screentype.app. This policy applies to the website and the signed-in application.
What we collect
- Account information. When you sign in with Google we receive identifiers and profile details Google provides (such as your name and email) so we can create and secure your account.
- Profile preferences. Names and settings you edit in Screentype (for example, author name on exports).
- Your screenplays and related files. Document content, titles, revision history, import/export activity, and structural metadata the editor derives from your writing.
- Technical data. Session cookies and similar tokens needed to keep you signed in, plus ordinary server logs (such as timestamps and request metadata) used to run and protect the service.
We do not require you to paste payment card details into Screentype today. If that changes, this policy will be updated.
How we use information
- Provide, sync, and back up your library and screenplays.
- Authenticate you and keep sessions secure.
- Power editor features that work from your document (format, index, history, export).
- Maintain, debug, and improve reliability and security of the service.
- Respond if you contact us about your account or privacy.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your screenplays for advertising.
When we share information
We share information only when needed to operate Screentype or when the law requires it:
- Infrastructure providers that host the app, store data, or handle authentication under contracts that limit their use of your information to providing those services.
- Sign-in providers (currently Google) when you choose to authenticate with them — subject to their own policies.
- Legal demands if we must disclose information to comply with law, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or security of users or the service.
Except as described above — and except with your prior consent for any AI-related use — we do not share your screenplay content with third parties for their own products or training.
Retention and deletion
We keep your account data and screenplays while your account is active so the product works. You can delete individual scripts from your library. If you want your account and remaining data removed, contact us using the email below and we will delete what we hold, except where we must retain limited records for security, fraud prevention, or legal compliance.
Security
We use standard safeguards appropriate to a hosted writing app — authenticated access to your documents, encrypted transport (HTTPS), and access controls on stored data. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure; please keep your Google account protected.
Children
Screentype is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Screentype evolves. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes — especially anything that would affect ownership of your writing or AI use of your data — will be called out clearly.
